On 6/20/2024 at approximately 0050 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a disturbance on the Parks Highway near Big Lake Road. Troopers responded to the scene and contacted 37-year-old Mark Brown standing on the side of the road. Investigation revealed Mark had assaulted a household member who was contacted by troopers nearby. Mark was arrested and transported to Mat-Su Pre-Trial where he was remanded and held without bail.

On June 20, 2024, AST arrested Brandon Mike (32 yoa of Stebbins) for unlawful contact in the first degree, and contempt of court. The District Court prohibited Mike from calling the victim in a recent DV case, which Mike was charged with Assault in the 3rd degree. Between June 15, 2024, and June 19, 2024, Mike called the victim in the underlying DV case at least five times. Mike was remanded to AMCC.

The complainant reported a household member entered her house in violation of his conditions on or about June 17, 2024. AST is investigating this case.

Location: FairbanksType: Fail to Stop At the Direction of A Peace OfficerDispatch Text:
On 06/13/2024 at approximately 1334 hours, Fairbanks Park Ranger requested AST assistance in a vehicle pursuit. Fairbanks Troopers took over the pursuit and a Vehicle Interdiction Technique was utilized to stop the fleeing vehicle. The passenger, later identified as Joseaph Marotta foot bailed from the vehicle and was later apprehended. A routine check in APSIN revealed that Joseph had 3 outstanding felony warrants for his arrest. The driver was identified as Mynah Hart. Mynah was taken into custody without incident. Both parties were remanded to FCC.

On 06/20/2024 at approximately 1700 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a disturbance, located in the Fairbanks area. The caller reported that they had been struck in the nose with an open-handed strike, causing pain, by their significant other. The suspect ultimately fled from the scene and has not been contacted by law enforcement at this time. This cause is currently under investigation.

UPDATE 6/20 9:45 pm: Today, the Alaska Army National Guard transported a search team of Alaska Air National Guard personnel and professional volunteers from the Alaska Dive Search, Rescue, and Recovery Team to Crescent Lake to continue the search. The team located the missing super cub in approximately 193’ of water while searching an area of interest identified on June 19 with a remotely operated vehicle (ROV). With the use of divers and a ROV, the crew was able to float the plane and tow it to shore. Both Paul Kondrat and Mark Sletten were found inside of the plane deceased. Their bodies were transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. Next of kin have been notified. The NTSB will determine the cause of the plane crash.
UPDATE 6/19 5:00 pm: Throughout the day, search teams from the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center, as well as DPS HELO 3, have searched Crescent Lake for the two missing persons and have not been successful. Search teams are still in the field searching with helicopters, divers, sonar, and boats.
The two occupants of the overdue Piper PA-18 Super Cub are currently listed as missing persons and are identified as:
- 41-year-old Utah resident Paul Kondrat
- 46-year-old Anchorage resident Mark Sletten
Additional updates will be provided as information becomes available.
ORIGINAL: On June 18, 2024, at 2:11 pm, the Alaska Wildlife Troopers were notified that two hikers had witnessed a plane crash at Crescent Lake near Moose Pass on the Kenai Peninsula. DPS HELO 3 and a US Fish and Wildlife Service float plane responded to the area and located debris in the lake, with no signs of survivors in the water or on the shore. Through investigation, wildlife troopers learned that a super cub was reported overdue in the area with two adult males on board. An Alaska Air National Guard rescue team was dispatched by the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) to the site; however, they were not able to locate either male. The Alaska Wildlife Troopers, in coordination with our local, state, military, volunteer, and federal partners, will be working to recover the two individuals throughout the day. The NTSB has been notified.

On 06/19/2024 at approximately 1812 hours, two sport bikes were observed to be speeding and popping wheelies in traffic on the Parks Highway near downtown Wasilla during rush hour traffic. The Highway Interdiction K9 Team conducted a traffic stop on the bikes. The riders were identified as Liam Shaw, age 18 of Wasilla and Izak Puntoro, age 19 of Wasilla. Both riders were issued a criminal summons for Reckless Driving and received a date to appear in court.

On 06/19/2024 at approximately 1713 hours, the Highway Interdiction K9 Team conducted a traffic stop on a Dodge van for multiple violations on Church Road. The driver was identified as Jeremy Janis, age 34 of Big Lake. Investigation revealed Janis to have a revoked driver's license with convictions of driving while revoked within the previous 10 years. Janis was issued a criminal summons for Driving While License Revoked and given a date to appear in court.

On 06/19/2024 at approximately 1334, the Highway Interdiction K9 Team conducted a traffic stop on a gray Subaru sedan for a speeding violation on S. Knik Goose Bay Road. The driver was identified as Gary Clement, age 48 of Wasilla. Investigation revealed Clement to be under the influence of alcohol and was subsequently placed under arrest. Clement later refused a breath test which is required by law following a DUI arrest. Clement was remanded to MAT-SU Pretrial on Driving Under the Influence and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test.
