On 9/4/24 at 1950 hours, Troopers attempted to stop an ATV for riding on the road without the required equipment and for driving in the oncoming lane of traffic. The driver failed to stop and eluded Troopers onto ATV trails in the woods in the area. The driver was identified as Dana Wolfe, 55 of Ninilchik, and a records check showed Wolfe had a suspended driver's license and was on conditions of release in a separate criminal case. Trooper filed charges in the Homer Court and a warrant for Wolfe's arrest was issued on charges of eluding 2nd, DWLR/S/C, and two counts of VCOR.

On 9/6/2024 at approximately 0924 hours, Palmer Courthouse staff contacted Palmer Judicial Services and requested an out-of-custody remand. William Stephens, age 31 of Willow, was subsequently arrested and remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial Facility to serve a sentence of 7 years with 4 years suspended for Assault I in 3PA-18-02152CR.

On 9/11/2024, at approximately 0630 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a motor vehicle collision at mile 33 of the Glenn Hwy. AST and EMS responded to the scene. Investigation revealed that a semi-hauling doubles merged onto the highway and caused a collision. A 2024 Subaru Crosstrek rear-ended another vehicle who avoided being struck by the semi. The Subaru caught on fire, and the driver was not injured. The Subaru has been removed from the roadway and no other injuries were reported.

Update: On 09/10/2024 at 0600 hours, Alaska State Troopers conducted a search warrant on a residence in Eagle River after receiving information on the second driver in the vehicle pursuit who had split off. Investigation revealed, McKenzie Ormsby 20 YOA of Eagle River, was the driver of the second vehicle involved in the vehicle pursuit. Ormsby was arrested and remanded at Hiland Mountain Correctional Center on charges of Failure to Stop 1st degree, Tampering with physical evidence, and Reckless Driving. Ormsby was held without bail.
On 9/7/2024 at approximately 1350 hours, Alaska State Troopers received the report of a REDDI northbound Glenn Highway from Thunderbird Falls involving 20 motorcycles. AST was conducting a high visibility traffic enforcement event in the area involving multiple units and Helo 3. A vehicle pursuit was initiated on a 2009 Suzuki sport bike after the operator failed to stop at the direction of a police officer. The motorcycle was pursued by Helo 3 for approximately 28 minutes and 31 miles while observed engaging in reckless driving behavior. The operator, identified as Jeremy Travis of Anchorage, was subsequently apprehended after he crashed the motorcycle while negotiating a curve at milepost 8 of Palmer Fishhook Road. The motorcycle was determined to be stolen out of Anchorage. Additionally, Travis was located in possession of a concealed handgun while under the age of 21. Travis was subsequently remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial Facility on 7 charges including Failure to Stop 1st degree, Vehicle Theft 1st degree, Theft 2nd degree, MIW 5th Degree, Reckless Driving and Reckless Endangerment.

On 9/11/24 at approximately 0214 hours, AST received a report of an assault in Palmer. Investigation revealed Mark Tirapelli, 59 of Palmer, caused physical injury to a family member. Mark was remanded to Matsu Pretrial for Assault 4 DV. Bail was set at no bail.

On 9/10/2024 at approximately 2033 hours, AST attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of Horizon Rd on a truck with two occupants in Wasilla. The vehicle failed to yield, and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle eventually stopped at a residence, and the driver eloped from the vehicle and into the woods. AST K9 Lavi and WPD responded with a drone to assist. The driver was found hiding nearby under a mattress in an abandoned motorhome. The driver was identified as Jesiah Hanson, 30, of Wasilla. Hanson had two outstanding warrants for arrest for Theft 4 and Failure to appear for Pretrial Conference. AST also learned that Jesiah had a suspended license.
Subsequent investigation revealed that the vehicle's passenger, identified as Johnna Woody, was hindering the driver's apprehension, telling AST she did not know who the driver was. It was revealed that the driver and the passenger were related and knew each other.
Hanson was arrested for Failing to Stop at the direction of a Peace Officer in the first degree, DWLS and his warrants. Woody was arrested for Hindering in the first degree.

On September 11, 2024, at about 1300 hours, AST received a report of a disturbance involving two people in Unalakleet. AST responded and arrested Rusty Jay Arkell (45 yoa Unalakleet) for violating conditions of release by consuming alcohol. AST transported Arkell to AMCC.

On 09/11/2024 at approximately 1102 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a motor vehicle collision with injury in the Mentasta Lake area on the Tok Cutoff near mile 78. Dispatch advised; it appears to be a head on collision with injuries. Investigation revealed a silver 2018 Kia sedan heading northbound observed an oncoming motorist in a maroon 2010 Ford Edge bearing AK plate JYA782 cross left of center and proceed to come head on. The driver of the Kia made an attempt to favor the fog line but ultimately could not avoid the collision. The driver of the Ford Edge was identified as Fabian M. Akerelrea, age 27. Both drivers sustained serious injuries and were air lifted from 40 Mile Air in Tok for further medical treatment. Investigation is still ongoing pending driving Under the Influence Charges.

On 09/05/2024 at appx 1127 hours, AWT contacted Brett Gagnon (29) of Wasilla. Gagnon had killed a sublegal bull moose. Gagnon's bull had a 43" spread and two brow tines per side. Gagnon was cited for taking illegal big game. The meat and antlers were seized. The meat was donated to charity and the antlers kept as evidence. A court date was set for 10/08/2024 in the Glennallen District Court.
