On March 30, 2026, at 2:34 p.m., Alaska State Troopers were notified of a threat of school violence at Nikiski Middle/High School. Troopers immediately began investigating the anonymous threat. On March 31, 2026, Troopers contacted a juvenile suspect at their residence. The juvenile was arrested and remanded to the Kenai Peninsula Youth Facility.

On 4/1/2026 at approximately 1515 hours, Court Services Officers assigned to Palmer Judicial Services arrested Ryan Tait, 21, of Wasilla at the Palmer Courthouse for an outstanding arrest warrant for Criminal Mischief IV. Tait was remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility with bail set at $250 cash performance bond and court approved conditions of release.

On March 31, 2026, at 2:47pm, the Alaska State Troopers received a report that 69-year-old Michael Day, of Wasilla, had fallen off his roof and was unresponsive. EMS and Troopers responded but life-saving efforts were unsuccessful. The State Medical Examiner responded to continue the investigation. Next of kin were at the residence.

On 04/01/2026 at approximatley 1210 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to the area of Palmer Wasilla Highway and Green Forest Drive for the report of a motor vehicle collision where a driver left the scene. With the help of on-scene witnesses, AST was able to locate the other driver. Investigation revealed Jonathan Hammond 52 YOA was driving intoxicated with a suspended license and fled the scene of an accident. Jonathan was arrested and transported to MATSU pretrial where he was held on $500 bail.

On 04/01/2026 at approximately 1330 hours, the Alaska State Troopers responded to an address near E. Kate’s Drive to contact Avemaria Leituala, age 24 of Wasilla. Leituala held an active arrest warrant, original charge Theft in the 2nd degree. Leituala was contacted and placed under arrest. She was transported to MSPT, where bail was set at $1,000 c/a.

On 04/01/2026 at approximately 0905 hours, staff with Denali Borough Landfill contacted AST to report littering. Investigation showed over 100 lbs of trash was dumped near mile 282 Parks Highway outside the boundaries of the Denali Landfill. Heather Cook, 46 of Anderson, admitted to dumping the trash. Heather was cited for littering over 5 lbs. She was given a date for mandatory court appearance and faces a possible fine of up to $1,000.

Investigation resulted in the arrest of Calvin Simon, age 58 of Fairbanks, for Felony DUI and Driving with a Suspended / Revoked license. On 12/01/2025, Alaska Wildlife Troopers opened an investigation into the unlawful take of a cow caribou and subsequent wanton waste on Miller House Road. After a thorough investigation by AWT with technical assistance from the Alaska Bureau of Investigations, Troopers identified Lucas Koppenhofer (age 26 of North Pole) as a primary suspect. Upon completion of the investigation, the case was referred to the Fairbanks District Attorneys Office. On 03/25/2026 Mr. Koppenhofer was charged with misdemeanor Caribou Seasons and Bag Limits, misdemeanor Wanton Waste of Big Game, and minor offense Failure to Submit Drawing Permit Hunt. Arraignment is set in the Fairbanks Court.
