On 12/05/2024 at about 2331 hours, Seward AST conducted a traffic stop on Old Nash Road in Seward. The driver was identified as Hughie Wilder III, 35 YOA of Seward. The investigation revealed Hughie was driving a pickup truck with a cancelled driver’s license and that the pickup truck was not properly titled, registered, or insured. During the investigation Seward AST discovered evidence of misconduct involving controlled substances (MICS). Seward AST impounded the pickup truck, seized Hughie’s personal property, and placed him under arrest for driving a motor vehicle without insurance. Hughie was remanded to Spring Creek Correctional Center and later released on his own recognizance with conditions of release.
On 12/06/2024, Seward AST applied for and was granted a search warrant for Hughie’s personal property. The search of Hughie’s property revealed that he was in possession of several stolen credit cards and identification documents. Concluding the execution of the search warrant, Seward AST contacted Hughie and placed him under arrest for two counts of theft in the second degree. A search of Hughie’s person revealed that he was in possession of suspected fentanyl powder. Hughie was remanded to Spring Creek Correctional Center on two counts of theft in the second degree, one count of MICS in the fifth degree, and one count violating conditions of release (VCOR) without bail.

On 12/06/2024 at about 1302 hours, Seward AST contacted Isaiah Hubbard, 27 YOA of Seward. Seward AST discovered that Isaiah was under DOC supervision for sexual assault in the third degree and that he was not registered as a sex offender as required by state law. Seward AST placed Isaiah under arrest for failure to register as a sex offender in the second degree. Seward AST called DOC and notified them of Isaiah’s arrest. DOC requested that Seward AST remand Isaiah for parole violation as well. Isaiah was remanded to Spring Creek Correctional Center on the aforementioned charges without bail.

On 12/7/24 at about 1512 hours, Soldotna AST received a report of a male who was apparently deceased in his residence. Investigation revealed Jeffery Tell, age 70 of Kenai, apparently died in his sleep during the night of 12/6/24. There were no suspicious circumstances, and his NOK has been notified.

On 12/07/2024 at approximately 0310 hours, the Alaska State Troopers in Big Lake stopped a vehicle at the Tesoro gas station for an equipment violation. Troopers contacted the driver, 60-year-old Michael Pastana, who had a warrant for his arrest. Michael was arrested and transported to Mat-Su Pre-Trial, where he was remanded.

On 12/7/2024 at approximately 0806 hours, AST received a report of an unexpected home death at a residence on Norman Ave. in Palmer. Investigation revealed Jessica James, age 54 of Palmer, was found deceased in the residence. No foul play suspected. NOK on scene. SME released the remains to the family.

On 12/07/24 at approximately 1054 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a vehicle being stolen from a driveway on Birchtree Drive in Wasilla. Troopers quickly located the fleeing stolen vehicle driving on Knik Goose Bay Road. After the stolen vehicle was stopped by troopers, the driver was detained and identified as Kylie Gordon, a 30-year-old female from Wasilla. After an extensive investigation, troopers found that Kylie was in possession of stolen property from two separate incidents from the day prior. Further, Kylie had stolen a second vehicle the day prior and left it at the scene to still the vehicle she was found in. Overall, troopers were able to recover two stolen vehicles and miscellaneous stolen property worth several thousand dollars. Both vehicles and the stolen property were returned to the owners. Kylie was arrested for two counts of Vehicle Theft in the 1st degree, one count of Theft in the 1st degree, two counts of Theft in the 2nd degree, three counts of Theft in the 4th degree, and one count of Criminal Mischief in the 4th degree. Kylie was remanded at Matsu Pretrial and held without bail pending arraignment.

On December 7, 2024 at approximately 1650 hours, the Alaska State Troopers responded to a Wasilla residence for a report of a disturbance. Investigation lead to the arrest of Jerilyn Iupeli, 33 years old of Anchorage, for recklessly causing physical injury to a family member. Iupeli was remanded to Mat Su Pre-Trial on one count of Fourth Degree Assault (Domestic Violence) and held without bail.

On December 7, 2024, at approximately 0035 hours, the Alaska State Troopers initiated a traffic stop on Badger Road. The driver was identified as John Decker, age 50 of Fairbanks. Further investigation revealed that John’s driver's license was suspended, with prior driving convictions while revoked. John was issued a summons to court for driving while revoked.

On December 7th 2024, at about 0711 hours, Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for an equipment violation. Upon further investigation and the Troopers observations, Shelly Goad, was charged with MICS 5. Suspected narcotics were sent to the Alaska State Crim Lab for testing. Charge forwarded to the DAO.

UPDATE 12/21: On December 20, 2024, at around 10:00 am, the Alaska State Trooper’s Southcentral SWAT Team and Mat-Su Drug Team conducted a search warrant at a residence in Meadow Lakes associated with this ongoing investigation. As a result of the search warrant and ongoing investigation, 40-year-old Wasilla resident Justin Jensen and 29-year-old Wasilla resident Andre Davis were arrested for Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree. Law enforcement officers also located Nester, who was currently on supervised release. Nester violated his conditions of release and in possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. Nester was arrested for Violating Conditions of Release and Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree. All three were remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial. The investigation is active and ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.
ORIGINAL: In August 2024, the Alaska State Trooper’s Mat-Su Drug Team initiated an investigation into suspected drug trafficking occurring at the Mug-Shot Saloon in Wasilla. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that multiple staff members were trafficking illegal drugs from within the bar. On December 6, 2024, around 10:00 pm, a task force of law enforcement officers from the Alaska State Troopers, Wasilla Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, and Anchorage Police Department executed a search warrant at Mug-Shot Saloon. As a result of the search warrant, 45-year-old Wasilla resident Mark Nester was arrested for Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree. Law enforcement seized approximately $55,000 in cash and illegal narcotics during the warrant service. The investigation is active and ongoing, and additional arrests may be made.
The Mat-Su Drug Team is a part of the Alaska High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Initiative and consists of law enforcement officers from the Alaska State Troopers and Wasilla Police Department.

On December 5, 2024, at 8:35 am, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a gunshot victim at a local hospital. Investigation into the incident revealed Andrew White, age 34, of Fairbanks, had shot the victim during an argument and then fled the area. Troopers were able to speak with a witness of the incident who corroborated the details of the event. The victim was medivaced to an Anchorage Hospital and is currently in stable condition. On December 7, 2024, AST received a report that Andrew White had returned to the victim's property. Troopers responded to the property but White refused to exit the building. Northern SWAT responded and after a short standoff, White was taken into custody and arrested for a $500,000 warrant for attempted murder. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
