On October 16, 2024, at 6:15 am, the Alaska State Troopers were notified of a single-vehicle rollover near mile 157 of the Sterling Highway. Troopers and other first responders were dispatched to the scene. A preliminary investigation revealed that 67-year-old Ninilchik resident Cheryl Komakhuk was driving a Jeep southbound when she lost control on the icy roadway and rolled the vehicle into the ditch. Komakhuk was the sole occupant of the jeep and was declared deceased at the scene. Her body will be sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. Next of kin have been notified.

Location: WasillaType: Reckless Driving, DWLR, VCORDispatch Text:
On 10/16/2024 at approximately 0332 hours, AST received a REDDI report that a Black Chevy Pickup was driving on the Glenn Highway near the Old Glenn bridge in the opposite direction of travel. AST contacted the vehicle and performed a PIN maneuver and was able to successfully keep the vehicle from continuing in the opposite lane of travel. The driver identified as Deshawn Williams 39 YOA, of Wasilla was transferred into Anchorage Police Department’s custody and remanded to the Anchorage Jail. Deshawn was charged with Reckless Driving, DWLR and VCOR.

On 10/16/2024 at approximately 0608 hours, Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on Church Road near Machen Road in Wasilla. Investigation revealed Derek Smith, age 27 of Wasilla, was driving with a revoked license. Smith was issued a citation for DWLR and released.

On 10/16/2024 at approximately 1218 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to Gold Bullion Blvd in Palmer for a report of a driver in distress. Investigation led to the arrest of Runar Hendricks, age 65 of Palmer, for DUI. Hendricks was remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility and held until sober.

On 10/16/2024 at approximately 1440 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to Three Bears Alaska for a possible shoplifting issue. Investigation revealed Jade Shell, age 26 of Big Lake, was trespassing in the store. Further investigation revealed Shell had two warrants for her arrest for Failure to Appear on the original charges of Theft III and Theft IV. Shell was arrested and remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility and held on $200 total bail.

On 10/16/2024 at approximately 1534 hours, Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on Trunk Road and Palmer Wasilla Hwy in Palmer. Investigation led to the arrest of Trevor Thompson, age 40 of Wasilla, for DWLR. Thompson was remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial with an O/R bail.

Location: UnalakleetType: Importation of Alcohol to a local option village, VCORDispatch Text:
On October 16, 2024, at 1500 hours, a caller reported a 33 yoa woman was at the Bering Air terminal in Unalakleet preparing to travel to Stebbins with alcohol in her bags. AST responded to the terminal and contacted the woman. AST seized five 750 ml. bottles of spirits destined for Stebbins, which banned the sale and importation of alcohol in 1987. AST will complete the investigation and charge the woman with importation and violating conditions of release in an open criminal case. An updated dispatch will be sent out when charges are filed.

On October 16, 2024, at approximately 0040 hours, AST conducted a traffic stop in the area of Airport Rd and Richardson Hwy. The driver was identified as Kyle Wiehl, age 39, of Fairbanks. A records check revealed that Kyle had multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest. Kyle was subsequently arrested for the warrants stemming from original charges of Theft 2, Theft 4 x2, Criminal Trespass 1, Misconduct Involving Controlled Substance 5, Driving While License Suspended x3, and improper use of plates. Kyle was transported to FCC and held on bail.

On 10/15/24 AST initiated a traffic for a equipment violation near the intersection of Bentley trust and Old Steese Hwy. The passenger in the vehicle was identified as Vadim Shastitko, who was found to be in possession a controlled substance which was presumptive positive for Methamphetamine. Vadim was remanded for MICS 5 and VCOR.

On 10-16-24 at approximately 0622 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a motor vehicle collision near mile 353 of the Richardson Hwy. Investigation showed that an adult male was driving east on the Richardson Hwy when he lost control of his vehicle and rolled it. No injuries were reported and the man was wearing his seat belt.

On 10/11/2024 at 0137 hours the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a two-vehicle collision involving a semi-truck with trailers and a passenger car near Mile 165 Parks Highway. Investigation determined Deno Jones, age 62 from Fairbanks, crossed over the center line and struck a semi-truck traveling the opposite direction. Jones was later issued a misdemeanor summons for Reckless Driving.

On October 16th, 2024, at approximately 1615 hours, AST received a report of a disturbance occurring at the Extended Stay. The Caller reported that someone was assaulting the property manager. The suspect was held down in the parking lot by guests until Troopers arrived. The suspect was Identified as Robbie Bevard. After an investigation Robbie Bevard was remanded to FCC for Assault and trespassed from the property.
