On 10/07/2024 at 2000 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a business in Wasilla for a welfare check. Investigation revealed, Aaron Knudsen 40YOA of Hawaii was operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Subsequently, Aaron was charged with refusal to submit to a chemical test. Aaron was remanded at Mat-Su pretrial and charged with DUI and refusal where he was released on his own recognizance.

On 10/7/2024 at approximately 2115 hours, the Alaska State Troopers arrived at approximately mile 42 of the Steese Highway for a reported domestic disturbance. Investigation reveled 36-year-old Christopher S. Sawey from Austin, Texas had assaulted a domestic partner. Subsequent investigation revealed Sawey had an outstanding $250.00 warrant from a previous theft case. Sawey was arrested without incident and transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center where he was remanded for Assault IV (DV) and the outstanding warrant.

On October 8, 2024, at approximately 0042 hours, Fairbanks AST observed a White Chevrolet SUV without any rear lights. The vehicle fled from AST. A pursuit was initiated. Shortly after, two occupants foot bailed into a residence. Troopers set a perimeter, utilized call outs, and exterior/interior drones. Multiple occupants exited the residence. The passenger was identified as Jaylin Edwin (multiple warrants). The vehicle returned stolen and was impounded for further investigation. Jaylin was remanded on her warrants, violating conditions, false report, and criminal mischief in the fifth degree. Investigation is ongoing.

On 10/08/2024 at approximately 1414 hours, Fairbanks AST received a report of a possible drunk driver. Troopers responded to the area of Chena Pump and Dartmouth and located the vehicle. Fairbanks AST conducted a routine traffic stop. Investigation revealed that the driver, Mathew Petruska was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. A routine check in APSIN revealed that Mathew also had 3 active warrants. (ref 4FA-24-01741CR, 4FA-24-01757CR,4FA-24-01740CR) Mathew was arrested on his warrants and remanded to Fairbanks Correctional Center.

On October 6, 2024, at approximately 2327 hours Alaska State Troopers in Tok conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for an equipment violation. Investigation revealed that the juvenile driver of the vehicle was under the influence of alcohol. They were arrested for DUI and transported to the Tok Post for DataMaster before being released to a sober adult. Three underage passengers were also cited with Minor Consuming Alcohol and released to sober adults. Charges are forwarded to the DAO on the driver for Driving Under the Influence, Driving in Violation of License Restriction, and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the First Degree.

Location: HainesType: Commercial Structure FireDispatch Text:
On Saturday, October 5, 2024, at approximately 2130 hours, the Haines Volunteer Fire Department (HVFD) and Haines Borough Police Department (HBPD) received a report of a commercial structure fire at the intersection of Haines Highway and Mud Bay. On arrival fire crews found heavy fire involvement throughout the structure. The structure contained the Haines' Quick Shop, Outfitter Liquor, Outfitter Sporting Goods, Mike's Bikes & Boards, along with residential apartments on the second story. All occupants of the residential apartments and the commercial business were able to self-evacuate and no injuries or fatalities were reported. A Deputy Fire Marshal (DFM) responded to assist with conducting an origin and cause investigation. The structure and its contents are a complete loss, estimated at $3.5 million. There are currently no indications of criminal activity, and the investigation is on-going.
