On 8/11/24 at 1830 hours Alaska State Troopers responded to a residence off Kayak Ave in Nikiski where Christopher Aaron Zoda, age 52, of Nikiski was contacted and arrested on two outstanding warrants with an original charge of DVPO violation. Zoda was remanded at Wildwood Pretrial without bail.

On 8/11/24 at 1400 hours, Troopers responded to a report of an intoxicated female walking in traffic on Diamond Ridge Road near the Sterling Highway. Troopers contacted the female, who was extremely intoxicated, and while talking with Troopers she nearly walked into the path of an oncoming vehicle. The female initially gave Troopers a false name, but she was eventually identified as Kentoria Wise, 42 of Kenai. Wise was arrested and transported to the Homer Jail. During the booking process Wise was uncooperative and threw her urine covered shoes at Troopers and Homer Officers. Wise was remanded on charges of providing false information, disorderly conduct, and harassment in the 1st degree.

On 8/11/24 at 1936 hours, Troopers stopped a vehicle on the Sterling Highway at Greenfield Ave. The driver was contacted and identified as Gary Robbins, 56 of Georgia. During the stop it was determined Robbins license was cancelled. Robbins was given a summons to appear for driving with a cancelled license and released.

On 08/12/2024 at approximately 1426 hours AST received the report of a disturbance on Knik River Road. Investigation revealed Demitri Merculief age 30 was driving while intoxicated and placed a family member in fear of imminent physical injury. Merculief was arrested and transported to Palmer Pretrial where he was remanded without bail.

Investigation led to the arrest of Anthony Brown, age 22 of Wasilla, for DUI. Brown was remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility and will be released on his own recognizance when sober.

UPDATE 8/12: On August 1, 2024, at 5:30 pm, Alaska State Troopers received a report of human remains found on the shore of the Egegik River near Egegik. AST and AWT responded in a state aircraft, recovered the remains, and sent them to the State Medical Examiner's Office. The body has been positively identified by the State Medical Examiner's Office as 36-year-old Washington state resident Clayton Hoy. Next of kin have been notified.
ORIGINAL: On July 25, 2024, at 7:10 am, Alaska State Troopers were notified of a man overboard in the commercial fishery near Egegik. It was reported that 36-year-old Clayton Hoy from Washington State had gone overboard from a fishing vessel. The USCG was in the vicinity and began a water and air search of the area. Multiple aircraft to include rotary and fixed wing aircraft as well as large and small vessels from the Coast Guard, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, and Good Samaritans heavily searched the Egegik River without any results. On July 26, 2024, at 2pm, active search efforts were discontinued. Next of kin was notified. The Alaska State Troopers would like to thank the US Coast Guard, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, and the countless Good Samaritans who aided in this search.

On August 11, 2024 at approximately 1910 hours, Fairbanks AST began responding to the area of Yenghee Road for a report of a disturbance involving a male shooting a firearm. The male was reported to be Alexander Steele, driving away from the scene on a red Polaris RAZR. AST conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and the vehicle rolled over. Investigation of the collision and disturbance resulted in the arrest of Alexander Steele for Assault in the 3rd degree, DUI, Misconduct Involving Weapons, Unlawful Contact in the first degree, and Unlawful Contact in the second degree.

On 08/09/2024 at approximately 1530 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted Leonid Kornichuk, age 20 of Anchorage, as he was fishing at Wasilla Lake in Wasilla. Investigation revealed Kornichuk was snagging fish by ripping the hook through the water and caught at least one salmon in the back. Wasilla Lake is also closed to all salmon fishing. Kornichuk was issued two bailable citations for snagging salmon and sport fishing in closed waters for salmon fishing.

On August 10, 2024, at 3:16 pm, the Alaska State Troopers were notified of an ATV crash in McGrath. Troopers immediately responded to the area. A preliminary investigation revealed that 33-year-old McGrath resident Katie Tall was the sole occupant and operator of an ATV that left the roadway for unknown reasons and collided with multiple trees at a high rate of speed. Tall was declared deceased at the scene. Her body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy, and her next of kin have been notified.

On August 12, 2024 at approximately 1402 hours, Alaska State Troopers Dispatch Center was notified via satellite communication company that Jordan Kim (age 33) of Ketchikan had slid down a cliff while hunting and was unable to self-recover, near Upper Mahoney lake. The Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad (KVRS) was mobilized and responded with the assistance of TEMSCO helicopters. KVRS safely extracted Kim and returned to Ketchikan. There were no injuries reported.

On 8/12/24 Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Anchorage investigated a report of a sub-legal sheep taken in unit 13A. Investigation revealed that Anton Nickel, age 36, of Anchorage shot a sub-legal sheep on 8/10/24 in unit 13A. Nickel was issued a citation and released.
