    On 02/07/24 at approximately 0241 hours, AST Dispatch in Soldotna received a 911 call from a highly intoxicated male requesting a tow because his vehicle was stuck. Troopers from Soldotna responded and followed tire tracks in the fresh snow from the location of the 911 call to a nearby neighborhood where 21-year-old Kenai resident, Lucas J. Kline was found in his vehicle. Subsequent investigation showed Kline had been operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Kline was arrested for DUI and remanded at Wildwood Pretrial.

    On February 6, 2024, the Alaska State Troopers Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) was activated to effect an arrest warrant at a residence in Kasilof. SERT members arrested 53-year-old Kasilof resident Mark Meyers on his active arrest warrant without incident. He was remanded to Wildwood Pretrial Facility on charges of Vehicle Theft 1, Burglary 2, and Theft 3.

Carabellese was arrested for Assault in the Fourth Degree and transported to Mat-Su Pretrial, where she was remanded and held without bail pending arraignment.

Nevills was arrested for Assault in the Fourth Degree and Violation of Conditions of Release and transported to Mat-Su Pretrial, where he was remanded and held without bail pending arraignment.

Investigation revealed, Stone Haselden 24YOA caused over $750 in damage and threatening staff with physical harm. Stone was arrested on charges of Criminal Mischief 3rd and Assault 4th x3. Stone was remanded at Mat-Su Pretrial where he is held without bail.

    On February 6, 2024, at 3:49 pm, Alaska State Troopers and EMS responded to a residence in Wasilla for a report of CPR in progress. Life-saving measures were unsuccessful, and 31-year-old Luke George was pronounced deceased. Next of kin was on scene and notified of the death. The body has been transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage for autopsy. The investigation into the cause and manner of death is ongoing.

Joseph is being charged with Assault in the 4th, Criminal Mischief in the 5th, and Interfering with a report of Crime Involving Domestic Violence.

Investigation revealed a small 4 door sedan rear ended a blue Buick sedan which subsequently rear ended a Chevy Tahoe. The Buick sedan received significant damage and 2 occupants were transported to a hospital for injuries. Both the small 4 door sedan and Chevy Tahoe (unknown vehicle colors) continued without stopping to render assistance or reported the crash.     On 2/6/2024 at 1836 hours AST received multiple reports of a motor vehicle collision at mile marker 38 of the Elliott Highway involving a 2015 Ford SUV and a commercial vehicle being operated by Sourdough Trucking.  The driver of the SUV, Robert Altman age 53 of Fairbanks, died as a result of the crash.  Two other people sustained non-life-threatening injuries.  An investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing.

Troopers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and arrested the driver, Darel Puller for Vehicle Theft and the passenger Cucuaq Katcheak for her warrants for theft. Both individuals were remanded to FCC.

    UPDATE 2/7/24: Human remains belonging to two adults that were located in the pickup truck have been positively identified by the State Medical Examiner's Office. They are identified as: 

    • Destiny Wood, age 26, of Fairbanks
    • Marcus Taylor, age 22, of Fairbanks

    Next of kin have been notified. 

     

    ORIGINAL: On January 20, 2024, at 1:19 pm, the Alaska State Troopers were notified of a vehicle collision near mile 183 of the Parks Highway. Alaska State Troopers, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, and fire/EMS responded to the scene. A preliminary investigation revealed that a semi-truck collided with a pickup truck after the pickup entered the opposite lane of travel. Both vehicles caught fire as a result of the collision. The driver, and sole occupant, of the semi-truck received non-life-threatening injuries and was medevaced from the scene to a hospital for treatment. The driver of the pickup truck was declared deceased at the scene. The driver’s remains will be sent to the state medical examiner’s office for autopsy and positive identification. Once the driver has been positively identified and next of kin have been notified, Troopers will release their identity. The Parks Highway was closed for approximately 5:45 minutes as Troopers documented the scene and cleared the vehicles.

    On 02/06/2023 at approximately 1600 hours, the Fairbanks Criminal Suppression Unit (CSU) received information on the location of a possible stolen vehicle and the suspect. CSU located the suspected vehicle with mismatched plates. Upon sight of Troopers, the vehicle began taking evasive action to avoid detection and was again located on Church St. The occupants, 2 females and a male driver, fled the vehicle on foot. CSU initiated a foot pursuit with the driver/primary suspect through yards and the surrounding neighborhood. The suspect attempted to hide in a vacant house and was apprehended inside. He was identified as Zachery Dove, 28, of Fairbanks. 

    A CSU Trooper attempted to locate the two female passengers in the surrounding area and observed an unrelated person attempt to wave him down. The Trooper identified this person through prior contacts as Justin Peter-Horace, 24, of Fairbanks who had an outstanding $10,000 felony arrest warrant for Failure to Appear on an original charge of Theft 2nd Degree . It appeared that Peter-Horace did not initially realize he was flagging down a Trooper. The CSU Trooper attempted to contact Peter-Horace, at which point he fled on foot. CSU initiated another foot pursuit, and deployed a taser, successfully apprehending the suspect. 

    Dove was remanded to the Fairbanks Correctional Center on the charge of Vehicle Theft 1st Degree. 

    Peter-Horace was remanded to the Fairbanks Correctional Center on his outstanding arrest warrant.

    Dispatch Text:

    On 02/07/2024 at approximately 0654 hours, an individual in Palmer, called AST dispatch to report her teenage child was trampled by a moose in the area of Plumley Road in Palmer as the juvenile was preparing to go to school.  The complainant declined an ambulance as she was taking her daughter to the hospital on her own with non-life threatening injuries.  AWT responded to the area and located the moose.  The moose displayed aggressive behavior toward the trooper and was subsequently shot.  A charity responded for the moose.  A follow up with the complainant revealed the juvenile had been released from the hospital with minor injuries.

    Dispatch Text:

    On February 5, 2024, at 6:09 pm, the Alaska State Troopers were notified of a shooting in the community of Russan Mission. Preliminary reports indicated that 45-year-old Russian Mission resident Richard Pitka had shot 46-year-old Russian Mission resident Patrick Changsak at Changsak’s residence. Changsak died on scene as a result of his injuries. Poor weather prevented Troopers and investigators from the Alaska Bureau of Investigation from immediately responding by aircraft. Community members located Pitka and detained him until law enforcement arrived. On February 6, 2024, Troopers were able to safely fly to the village to investigate the shooting. Pitka was arrested and charged with Murder in the Second Degree. Changsak’s body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy, and his next of kin have been notified.

    In January 2024, the Alaska State Troopers, Ketchikan Police Department, and Southeast Alaska Cities Against Drugs (SEACAD) task force officers began an investigation into drug trafficking occurring in the Ketchikan area. On January 12, 2024, investigators interdicted 9,838 counterfeit pills containing fentanyl, ½ pound of methamphetamine, 1.5 ounces of fentanyl power, and $14,411 in US currency. Investigators arrested 38-year-old Ketchikan resident Andrew Hanson and remanded him to Ketchikan Correctional Center on charges of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the 2nd Degree, one count of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree, one count of Misconduct Involving Weapons in the 2nd Degree, and one count of Misconduct Involving Weapons in the 3rd Degree.

    Further investigation led to additional seizures of illicit narcotics related to this investigation on February 6, 2024; during the second seizure, law enforcement located approximately 14,938 counterfeit pills containing fentanyl and approximately 1.8 pounds of methamphetamine. The total street value of drugs seized during this investigation is approximately $1,682,000 in Ketchikan, Alaska - and includes over 38,000 potentially fatal doses of fentanyl.

    SEACAD, Southeast Alaska Cities Against Drugs, is a regional task force comprised of municipal police departments from Juneau, Ketchikan, Sitka, Haines, Skagway, Petersburg, Hoonah, Wrangell, Craig and Yakutat, the Alaska State Troopers, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration, United States Postal Inspection Service, and Coast Guard Investigative Service. Together, they work to investigate drug importation and distribution in the Southeast Alaska region.

    On 02/07/2024 at approximately 0904hours, the Highway Interdiction K9 Team conducted a traffic stop on a Blue Subaru for a seat belt violation. The driver was identified as Travis Peck, age 35 of Wasilla. Investigation revealed Peck was driving with a suspended driver's license with previous convictions. Peck was issued a criminal summons to appear in court.

    On 01/30/2024 at approximately 1133 hours, the Highway Interdiction K9 Team attempted a traffic stop on a Silver Kia sedan in downtown Anchorage. The vehicle fled for multiple miles in a reckless manner. Due to the recent snow fall causing slick road conditions and the heavy traffic, the pursuit was discontinued. Further investigation revealed the driver to be Danny Jones Junior, age 50 of Anchorage. Charges are being forwarded on Jones for Fail to Stop at the Direction of a Peace Officer 1st Degree and Driving While License Revoked.
