    Type: MVC-Injuries / Reckless Driving / Reckless Endangerment / Assault 3rd

    Dispatch Text:

    On 8/5/2024 at approximately 1753 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a reported two vehicle collision near milepost 81 Sterling Highway.  Investigation revealed Michael Karl Hadden, age 29 of Palmer, was driving a maroon 2006 Chevrolet northbound on the Sterling Highway, when he went into the oncoming lanes, striking a green 2001 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Eugene Malone, age 60 of Soldotna.  Hadden was arrested and charged with four counts Assault 3rd, three counts Reckless Endangerment and Reckless Driving.  Alcohol was a contributing factor in the collision.  Minor injuries were reported, with no persons being transported hospital.  Both vehicles were substantially damaged and disabled.

    On 08/04/2024 at approximately 1934 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a death at the Goose Creek Correctional Center in Wasilla. The death was of a 70-year-old inmate and the death was expected and natural in cause. No foul play is suspected, and NOK notification is underway.

    On 08/05/2024 at approximately 0107 hours, Alaska State Troopers contacted David Shuldham, age 52 of Anchorage, at a residence on Schrock Road. Investigation revealed Shuldham had an APD arrest warrant on the original charge of OUI. Shuldham was remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility and held on $5000 bail.

    FINAL UPDATE 8/6 7:00 pm: On 08/06/2024 at approximately 1602 hours, Zapata was located near the Bomber Glacier with the assistance of the Alaska Mountain Rescue Group, Alaska Mountain Rescue Group Dogs, AK State Parks, AST & AWT. Zapata was airlifted by the Alaska National Guard to a local hospital for treatment of injuries. Troopers would like to thank all of our local SAR resources that responded to this incident.

    UPDATE 8/5 7:45 pm: Throughout the day, Alaska State Troopers coordinated search efforts consisting of aerial searches with DPS HELO 2 and ground searching by Alaska State Park Rangers and professional volunteers from Alaska Mountain Rescue Group. Search teams found no sign of the overdue hiker. Search efforts have ended for the evening and will resume on August 6th. 

    The overdue hiker is identified as 60-year-old Palmer resident Roberto Zapata, who has been listed as a missing person. Anyone with information about Zapata's current location who has not contacted law enforcement can call the Alaska State Troopers at (907) 352-5401.

    ORIGINAL: On August 5, 2024, at 12:45am, Alaska State Troopers received a report of an overdue hiker in Hatcher Pass. The hiker left on Saturday morning and was scheduled to return Sunday evening but did not return. His vehicle was located at the Upper Reed Lakes trailhead. Alaska State Troopers Helo-3, and Alaska Mountain Rescue Group (AMRG) responded and are currently searching the area. The search is ongoing.

After further investigation and locating Joseph, he was placed under arrest for VCOR and MICS 5, as he had suspected methamphetamine on his person. Joseph was remanded to FCC without incident.

    On 8/5/2024, Lisa Parker 52 YOA of Branch, MI, was issued a summons by Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Cordova Post for Advertising as a Transporter with out a transporter license. Parker was given an arraignment date of 8/28/24 at 1000 hours in Cordova District Court.

    Dispatch Text:

    On August 4, 2024, at approximately 2130 hours the Alaska Wildlife Troopers were conducting foot patrols along Cottonwood Creek.  While watching fishermen, Troopers witnessed Josiah Russell hook a salmon on its back, pull it on shore, and then cut its gills.  When Russell was approached by Troopers, he tried denying that he caught the salmon somewhere other than its mouth.  An examination of the salmon by Troopers and Russell did not reveal any catch marks on the mouth of the salmon.  Russell eventually admitted that he knew the salmon was not hooked in the mouth.  Russell was issued a citation for retaining a foul hooked fish.  The fish was seized and donated to charity.

    On August 3, 2024, at approximately 1500 hours, Alaska Wildlife troopers were conducting foot patrols along Cottonwood Creek.  Contact was made with Cody Miller who was in possession of five salmon and actively fishing.  Cody told Troopers that his son had caught three of them.  When the juvenile was asked what fish he caught, he told Troopers that his dad had caught all of them.  Cody was issued a citation for taking an overlimit of daily possession of three salmon.  The overlimit fish were seized and donated to charity.

    On August 3, 2024, at approximately 1500 hours the Alaska Wildlife Troopers were conducting foot patrols along Cottonwood Creek.  While checking the fish that Charles Johnson had in his possession it was noticed that one of the salmon was not hooked in the mouth.  Johnson admitted that he foul hooked the salmon and did not return it to the water.  Johnson was issued a citation for retaining a foul hooked fish.  The fish was seized and donated to charity.

    On August 3, 2024, at approximately 1520 hours the Alaska Wildlife Troopers were conducting foot patrols along Cottonwood Creek.  While watching fishermen, Troopers witnessed Randall Yokum hook a salmon in its back, bring it on shore, hit it on the head and then put it in his bag. When Yokum was approached by Troopers, he did not deny that he kept the salmon while knowing it was not hooked in the mouth.  Yokum was issued a citation for retaining a foul hooked fish.  The fish was seized and donated to charity.

    On 8/4/24 at approximately 1425 Soldotna Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted Dale Bennett, age 70 of Kenai, on Kasilof South Beach. Bennett had failed to record his salmon he caught while dip netting on his 2024 Upper Cook Inlet Personal Use Permit.  Bennett was issued a $100 citation with an optional court date for Failure to Record Salmon.

    On 7/30/2024 at approximately 1230 hours, Soldotna Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted Gerald Reynolds, age 44 of Soldotna, on the North Beach of the Kasilof River. Reynolds Failed to Record his salmon caught while dip netting on his 2024 Upper Cook Inlet Personal Use Permit. Reynolds was issued a citation with $100 fine and an optional court date.
